Lush Green Thorns
By: Rachelle Maag
Love can be unfulfilling when it's used to fill a hole
As a way to stitch together what isn't there
Love like this leaves you feeling empty, without joy
So if it is used for such a purpose, is it really love?
Love is meant to build, not to destroy
The grass is always greener on the other side, as they say
But what if I was not walking in grass, it was thorns
It appeared lush and green, but with every step, I bled
So I was left aching and torn
When we need to be with someone to feel happy
It is a prison we put ourselves in
We become a slave to outside influences
Instead of the happiness coming from within
As the nightmare falls to ashes around me
I find bravery to face the unknown
Because ashes provide the foundation for new life to grow
Now seeds of joy and comfort are being sown
I have now grown a safe field of grass for my feet
My wounds are beginning to heal
I have now found peace within myself
There are no longer any holes left to fill
Sometimes the grass really is greener
